Though generally more associated with ITV shows, Suranne did star in the 2014 BBC World War One drama The Crimson Field, where she played the character Sister Joan Livesey. Despite receiving fairly strong viewing figures, much to the cast and writers surprise the show was not renewed for a second season.

Plot

Suranne Jones plays the shows title character Doctor Jenny Foster, a well respected General Practitioner and key member of her local community. Used to having all aspects of her life nicely under control, things quickly change when she starts suspecting her husband of being unfaithful.

Turning detective and desperate to know the truth, this village GP begins an investigation which not only sends her own life into disarray, but also those of her family members and patients. After uncovering some shocking secrets, the hardest part for Doctor Foster will be deciding what action to take next.

Speaking to the BBC about the show, Suranne Jones said: “It’s about looking at one woman’s story and asking, what if that was me? What would I do in that situation? And the age-old question of why.”

Premiere Date

With the lead cast members having been announced in February, the shows air date has been set for Wednesday the 9th of September, 2015, at 9:00pm on BBC One. The series will be broadcast over five 60-minute episodes.

Written by Mike Bartlett and directed by Tom Vaughan, Doctor Foster is produced for BBC1 by Drama Republic.
