Marcella – ITV Commissions New Eight-Part Crime Drama

Marcella – ITV orders new Nordic style TV crime drama from writer Hans Rosenfeldt.

Featuring a British Metropolitan Police Officer as the shows central character, Marcella is Scandinavian noir set on the streets of modern day London. Told in ‘The Bridge’ writer Hans Rosenfeldt’s unwaveringly direct style, this eight-part drama promises an abundance of action and hooks as it guides viewers through a narrative maze.

The show looks inside the psychology of this lone female detective as she investigates a series of murder cases containing multiple potential suspects and victims.

Having giving up a fast-tracked role in favour of getting married and having children, title character Marcella returns to the Metropolitan Police’s Murder Squad after a 12 year absence from the force. With her marriage to Jason coming to a sudden end and their daughter now living away at boarding school, Marcella decides the time is right to restart her career. As things turn out, Marcella could not have chosen a more appropriate moment to rejoin the Met.

A succession of similar murders have recently taken place, each bearing the characteristics of unsolved cases from the period of Marcella’s original service. Reassigned a case she first investigated back in 2003, Marcella must discover whether the original killer has resurfaced, or if a new copycat murderer is at large.

Filming Locations

Filming on the ITV series starts in and around London during autumn 2015.
