Better Call Saul filming locations and behind the scenes, on set video.
Where was Better Call Saul filmed?
As with Breaking Bad, the television series which first introduced us to lawyer Saul Goodman, Better Call Saul is filmed in the city of Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA. This is also where the series itself is set.
Season 1 of this Breaking Bad spin-off prequel began shooting in June of 2014, with specific film locations including Eubank Boulevard NE and Lomas Boulevard NE. Eubank Blvd NE features mainly residential zones, while Lomas Blvd NE also includes a number of commercial areas.
Saul’s later office, which we saw regular exterior views of in Breaking Bad, used the real world location of 9800 Montgomery Blvd NE. Using Google Street View, here’s a look at how the area appears when Mr Goodman is not in town:
As with BB, most of the shows indoor scenes have been filmed at Albuquerque Studios, 5650 University Blvd SE (pictured above).
Better Call Saul sees actor Bob Odenkirk take on the role of small-time lawyer Jimmy McGill, as he begins his evolution into the more charismatic and criminal-minded Saul Goodman.
Along with new cast members Rhea Seehorn, Michael McKean, Patrick Fabian and Michael Mando, Odenkirk is joined by fellow Breaking Bad star Jonathan Banks who reprises his role as the no-nonsense fixer Mike Ehrmantraut.
During filming of BCS season 1, one of the biggest questions being asked by fans was would Bryan Cranston and/or Aaron Paul make any cameo appearances as Walt or Jesse? Of course there’s no rule saying either of them could only appear as their original characters, they could perhaps play someone completely different.
In terms of taking on anything greater than a brief guest appearance though, Aaron Paul would be much more likely to star than Bryan Cranston. BB fans will remember Walt hadn’t met Saul prior to his Heisenberg era, whereas Jesse had used the ‘criminal’ lawyers services before.
As a result of the media speculation and high levels of internet interest, any filming of special guest appearances would have been surrounded by great secrecy to try and avoid any leaked spoilers.
The US release date for Better Call Saul was eventually confirmed for Sunday February 8, 2015 on AMC, with episode 1 being made available to watch just hours later in the UK & Ireland on Netflix.
